These conversations have been taking place across many offices at a higher rate since the pandemic began. In Florida, Governor Desantis said there had been up to $20 billion in fraudulent claims filed to Florida’s Department of Economic Opportunity, which oversees the state unemployment program. The department estimates to have prevented 11 billion dollars in fraudulent payments.
