Minnesota governor Tim Walz signed this legislation on 6-30-21 that will modify various provisions governing economic development, labor and industry, and unemployment insurance related to reemployment assistance training that will come into effect July 3, 2022.

This measure states an applicant is in “reemployment assistance training” when the applicant can provide proof of enrollment in one or more programs offered by an adult basic education consortium.

How does this affect employers?

Employers who were liable for paying unemployment benefits as a result of the claimant’s separation from their organization will be liable for unemployment benefits collected during the claimant’s attendance in the training program.
