Nevada – Governor Steve Sisolak signed in HB 386 and 75 making major changes in Nevada’s unemployment sector. The highlights of both House Bills are outlined below:

HB 386

HB 386 specifically creates provisions for employers within the State’s casino, hospitality, stadium, and travel-related industries

What does this mean for my organization? 

Although this does not have any noted effect on unemployment, it is likely to become a provision that can affect an employee’s eligibility for unemployment benefits.

HB 75

What does this mean for my organization?

Educational institutions should take note of the legislation regarding reasonable assurance. This does not specify an employee’s role within an educational institution, so it’s assumed that all employees (janitorial staff, administration, etc.) will be considered within this legislation and will also require reasonable assurance moving forward.

Also, the additions of electronic transmission for contact paves the way for a nationwide trend of State Unemployment System Modernization. Nevada will continue to see changes in how it handles and addresses Unemployment. CCC will keep you updated on any new Nevada System Changes.

This measure also will provide reimbursable employers relief of charges between March 13, 2020, and September 6, 2021. This relief will be applied to claims within this period.

The legislation also removes the 3-year limitation which will allow companies more flexibility when the State of Nevada begins to recover from the effects of COVID-19
