On May 27, Governor Pete Ricketts signed LB 260. Beginning August 1, 2021, good cause for individuals voluntarily leaving work to collect unemployment will now include:

Employers will not be charged for unemployment benefits collected by a claimant in the following instances:

To be eligible for noncharging, the employer must respond timely with full and complete information on all unemployment claims communications from the state unemployment agency.

How does this affect my organization?

While this legislation provides for more opportunities for claimants to receive unemployment benefits, it also provides for employers to receive noncharging in the instances that are not attributed to the employer. Employers must be taxpaying or contributing employers to receive noncharging. This means it will not affect their unemployment tax rate.

For reimbursing employers, charges will be received in these types of separations.
