This measure removes a condition for being unemployed for part-time work.

This measure removes the condition for being deemed “unemployed” that an individual’s weekly remuneration for part-time work must be less than the individual’s weekly unemployment insurance benefit amount between the effective date and January 2, 2022. The measure restores the condition for weeks beginning on or after January 2, 2022.

What does HB 3178 mean for Employers?

The measure is intended to assist part-time employees in receiving both state and federal benefits despite their benefit amount exceeding wages. In Senate Bill 1701, it was determined an employee could not collect benefits if they were receiving more benefits than their part-time wages. This measure has amended the definition of “unemployment.”
