Roberta Reardon, Commissioner of the NYSDOL, issued an order on January 14th which lifted employer responsibility for unemployment claims related to COVID-19. This order specifically states that “The provisions of this Order apply to 100% of benefits attributable to employers liable for contributions and to 50% of benefits attributable to employers liable for payments in lieu of contributions.” It is noted that the order will be retroactive to March 9th, 2020.
It is also noted employer tax rate statements will be delayed to account for recent changes. The anticipated date for the release of UI rate notices is late March 2021. Employers will see a credit for all charges from March 8, 2020.
