Massachusetts Department of Unemployment Assistance (DUA) provided the following notice via email to all employers and agents on December 24, 2020:

“The Department of Unemployment Assistance (DUA) typically communicates with employers around this time each year regarding the next year’s Unemployment Insurance (UI) Rate Notices. This year, to respond to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Baker has introduced legislation that may impact the 2021 UI Rate Schedule. The proposed legislation will freeze the UI Rate schedule at rate schedule “E”, instead of moving to rate schedule “G” in January 2021. As a result, the 2021 Rate Notices will not be issued until 2021.

DUA will communicate with employers as soon as an update regarding 2021 Rate Notices is available.”

CCC will continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates as they are available. If you have additional questions, please contact your CCC Tax Analyst.
