Governor John Bel Edwards (D) signed a measure on June 11, 2020, extending the deadline for the second quarter, 2020 unemployment tax payments and contribution reports to September 15 from July 31, 2020.  A similar change was made for the first quarter, 2020.  Under the measure (S.B. 461), employers have the option to file and pay their second-quarter unemployment taxes later than the usual July 31 date.  Most states require each quarter’s payment to be made by the last day of the month following the end of a given quarter.  At this time, there are no indications third or fourth quarters’ due dates will change but we will keep you posted when and if they do.
