Even with all the myriad ways we can connect these days, a simple phone call is still a powerful tool. Email, text, and other methods are great and have their place, but here are a few reasons to consider using the phone more.

Tone, intent, and simple pleasantries can be far clearer and far more effective on the phone. Text communication often leaves much up to the interpretation of the reader. Think you’ve sent a simple, direct request, but your reader sees a passive-aggressive criticism? You’ve got a one-way ticket to confusion and frustration. A phone conversation can both nip that confusion in the bud and salvage things before the train has gone too far down the rails.

There is also a sense of urgency that phone calls can convey and work within. There’s a reason that most state agencies resort to calls when they need additional information on a claim and schedule calls (or in-person meetings) when escalating a case to a hearing. Questions can get answers, follow-ups, and clarification far more expediently when on the phone. As with the note above, if the exact question or answer is unclear in an email, clarifying that matter can take multiple emails and ramp up fatigue and frustration. A few moments on the phone can cut out that entire process.

Creating a personal connection over the phone helps ensure that everyone is on the same page, knows exactly what everyone needs and means, and can pair a voice to emails. We at Corporate Cost Control strive to create and maintain that personal connection in all we do, and what can seem like a simple phone call can be a powerful tool to do so.
