Connecticut: The Connecticut Department of Labor warned incoming Governor Lamont that is the national economy goes downward trend over the next year, Connecticut is not likely to have enough money to cover unemployment benefits from those making existing claims, or filing for the first time. A spokeswoman for the Connecticut Department of Labor told NBC Connecticut that the department is looking at multiple ways to shore up the fund, which currently sits at about $600 million, but needs to be closer to $1.7 billion in order to be solvent, projections show.

Texas: Texas Workforce Commission lowers unemployment tax rates for all employers. The average unemployment insurance (UI) tax rate for all employers will be 1.25% for calendar year (CY) 2019, dropping from 1.37% in CY 2018 to its lowest point since 2009. The average tax rate for experience-rated employers is 1.06% for CY 2019, and is down from 1.20% in CY 2018.

The minimum tax rate is paid by 340,158 employers, which represents 65.6% of experience-rated employers. The standard minimum UI tax rate paid by Texas employers in CY 2019 will be 0.36%, which is down from 0.46% in CY 2018.
