What? ShrugJust today I got a call from a client, the issue?  Their claims are not coming to CCC directly from the State Unemployment Agency.

To assist this client, I confirmed in CCC’s system that we had the correct State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) number in the state in question and that a POA had been filed and accepted.

We were in good shape! According to our team, not only had we filed and confirmed that CCC was in fact to be the address of record for their unemployment claims.

So what happened? Why is CCC not receiving the claims directly? Why are they going to several different locations?

One of life’s great mysteries is how a State Unemployment Office can send an unemployment document seemingly into oblivion, despite having CCC listed as Power of Attorney (POA). CCC’s expectation is that once an employer becomes a client, we will file as POA, this includes a notice that we are to be the Address of Record moving forward,  for all State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) numbers for that client in each state of operation.  At that point, theoretically, CCC should be receiving all unemployment-related documents at our offices directly.

Somehow, the state occasionally ignores that POA directive and sends the claim to the actual clients’ location or a corporate headquarters address. We do everything to avoid this, but states continue to make these errors at a surprising rate. CCC has several methods to follow up with the state to remind them where to send all unemployment related correspondence including but not limited to:

What can an employer do to protect themselves if they begin receiving unemployment correspondence directly?

In this event, it is imperative the location in receipt forwards us the documentation using our ‘UI docs’ email or fax. At that point, we can assess which state office made an error and try to stop it from occurring again.

The fax number is (603) 719-1026

On many occasions, the employees at the employer location may not know what to do with the document and either trash it or put in a pile to figure out later. CCC has posters that we can provide to mail rooms or departments to show them the unemployment documents and what to do with them,  just ask your CCC Account Executive.  While CCC can argue that a claim was not received, some state agencies may not feel this is a valid argument, and the employer can lose their protest rights for failure to respond, and this may also be seen as a UI Integrity violation.

If you have issues, Of this nature please just reach out to your Claims Examiner or Account Executive for assistance. If we are not made aware, we can lose protest rights since we did not respond to the claim, because we did not receive it.
