Flying a bit under the radar in late March was a new law in Arkansas that could lead to big savings for local employers.

Welcome back to the Corporate Cost Control blog, and thanks for joining us.

The law, officially known as Act 412, has two major changes to Arkansas’ unemployment insurance system.

The first is a decrease in the amount of money needed for the state’s unemployment trust fund. The second is a change in benefits. Now, jobless workers will be paid based on the average salary of their previous four quarters. Before, it was based only on their last quarter.

All in all, these two changes will likely lead to cost savings for employers and the state, and that is something that has excited lawmakers.

We’ll see you next time.
