Across the country, several states are cutting the amount of time jobless workers can receive benefits.

Thanks for joining us, and welcome back to the Corporate Cost Control blog.

Nine states, including Florida, Georgia and both Carolinas, have reduced the number of weeks eligible claimants can receive unemployment insurance. The result is both cost savings and fewer unemployed with benefits.

This comes from an Economic Policy Institute report on unemployment insurance.

In Florida, the drop in recipients has exceed the national average. In 2014, Florida was one of the states with the lowest number of jobless workers receiving benefits.

This has created a debate over whether this is good news or bad – Florida is saving money, but they are also leaving the unemployed without government aid.

Thanks for watching, we’ll see you soon.
