As an employer, it will be inevitable that at some point your organization will be involved in an unemployment hearing. It is important to prepare all witnesses for what to expect during the hearing proceedings.
Whether the hearing is by telephone or in person, the process does not change.

Knowing the process will make your witness more comfortable and enable them to focus on their testimony during the hearing. To impress the state agency, the following checklist will benefit all witnesses attending your next unemployment hearing.
- Be on time
- Be prepared
- Dress appropriately (clean, business attire)
- Be an active listener
- Wait your turn
- Keep answers simple
- Watch Your Language-you are being recorded!
- Tell the truth
- Do not guess
- Do not use extreme statements
- Support your answers with facts, not conclusions
- Ask for clarification if you do not fully understand a question
